If you saw a grown man sobbing on Henry Street yesterday, that was probably just me grieving over the apparent loss of Liberty Bell Cheesesteaks. The sign below says it all.
I was hoping some sick bastard was playing a practical joke on me. Oh the sadness. Well, there is a little bit of silver lining to that cheese filled dark cloud. Apparently this not-so-healthy-but-delicious food joint, which I wrote about a while back, will reopen up on Lake Avenue in some sort of space sharing arrangement with Peppers Market. While I am happy to see it continue on in any local spot, and even though the new location is less than a half mile from the present one, I do hate to see LBC leave downtown. It's not completely unreachable at its location on Lake Avenue, just practically unreachable for those downtown who are walking.
I don't know the details of their sudden closing, but the timing couldn't be worse with track season here. I can't find their Facebook page and their web site does not give any clues. If I find any more out I will follow up on here. Look for the Peppers/Liberty Bell Cheesesteaks pairing on Lake Avenue sometime after track season, and perhaps the shared overhead will give this authentic Philly inspired eatery some longevity. In the meantime, if anyone needs to contact me I'll be drowning my sorrows out in Milton at Juicy Burgers.
