Well you don't need me to repeat the obvious and comment on what a glorious weekend it was - but I guess I did just that.
There was a good article in Sunday's Saratogian reporting on how far along Universal Preservation Hall has come on the rehabilitation and other improvements. That place is special to me and I was glad to see the article. Don't forget to go to Siro's this Saturday to watch the Kentucky Derby. I don't know what time they will open, but they will be selling raffle tickets there which will benefit Universal Preservation Hall - be sure to buy a few.
There was also an article in Saturday's Sartogian reporting on the pending closure of the St. John Neumann residence for priests - on Lake Avenue next to St. Clements Church. Apparently about 24 retired priests will be moved to homes in Maryland, Pennsylvania, or Brooklyn. I just felt sad for the residents there - to be forced out of Saratoga Springs just seems dreadful to me. I hope they find happiness in their new homes.
The Times Union's Table Hopping Blog has a post on Mother's Day Lunch and Dinner at Maestro's. The Saratoga Seen blog has an entry from Leigh Hornbeck on her first impressions at Chipotle.
I hesitate to share this link, because it's so sad, but please read this powerful entry from the Brooklyn Backstretch blog about an accident at Aqueduct this past weekend that necessitated the euthanization of a horse and nearly caused a second accident. Just very sad. It's unfortunately not all about graceful racing and hitting exactas.
On to a different sadness, there was an article in today's New York Times about the possible demise of the Chrysler Corporation. It's certainly a troubling economic story, but I couldn't help but notice the beautiful picture of the Chrysler Saratoga at the beginning of the article. Maybe that's the trick - bring the Saratoga back!
I will try to end this on a positive note - I added a cool new blog to the blogroll (on the right column) - it's the Saratoga Soaring Club blog - about gliding of course. I've never lived near a soaring club (that I know of anyway) and I think it's a cool and thrilling, albeit risky of course, hobby. One of these days perhaps I'll venture out to the airport to get a closer look. A closer look from the ground that is.
