Good news!!! I have not been to PJ's Barbecue, Juicy Burgers, or Liberty Bell Cheesesteaks in weeks!! My cardiologist says "Hooray!"
Don't celebrate too soon Dr. Nofunhealthyeatingguy. I found another delicious Saratoga summer food place that is sure to keep my cholesterol up high enough to make the folks at Pfizer happy.
Saratoga Awesome Dogs is, well, awesome. Owned and run by the hard working Kathy Kahl, who apparently never takes a day off, this little stand accompanied by covered picnic tables out back is located in front of the EBI Beverage Center/Quality Hardware location on Excelsior Avenue near the intersection with East Avenue.
I had, what else, one of their "awesome dogs" which is a dog with a tasty sauce described by the menu as "Kathy's world class meat sauce", and my girlfriend had the cheese dog (I only take her to the fanciest places). We both enjoyed them and we highly recommend that you stop by next time you're over that way. FYI they also have barbecue items including pulled pork and various types of sausage. Also, the prices are very reasonable. A plain dog is $2.00, Awesome Dogs and her other dog creations, including the aforementioned cheese dog, spicy dog, kraut dog, and salsa dog, are $2.50, and sodas and bottled water are just a buck.
On a related note, you may have heard that the Troy location of Hot Dog Charlie's suffered fire damage Friday. Hot Dog Charlie's is opening a location on Caroline Street in the old Lime location. No word yet on if or how the Troy fire will affect the opening here in Saratoga Springs.
Hey Dan!
Soon you'll have to change the name of your blog to "Food in Saratoga"....hahahaha!
Speaking of hot dogs, I wonder if the Hot Dog King will return to Broadway this year. Haven't seen any mention anywhere.
Oh and speaking of food in Saratoga, have you tried the new El Mexicano yet? We went on Friday and loved it. I left a detailed comment on an El Mexicano thread on the Tablehopping blog, so you can see what I thought.
Hope you had a great holiday weekend.

Yea Ellen - or "Fast Food in Saratoga" right? I haven't eaten at El Mexicano but will soon - and yes I did see that on the Table Hopping blog but must have missed your name on the comments. I will give it a try! Thanks.

I was actually the person who inspired Steve to write the query post about El Mexicano in the first place, although he just identified me as " a reader".
Isn't there also another hot dog place on the way to Ballston Spa near Aldi's? Used to be a fried fish place.
An abundance of hot dogs all of a sudden. I don't eat hot dogs very often so I guess I should decide which is the best place for one. Last time I had one was when the Hot Dog King was in Congress Park, before the Awesome Dog lady put up a stink and had him evicted.

Hot dog king is dead and he sucked anyway... he's in the mob! I don't recall him having a smoker to cook his dogs. Clearly the winner here is Kathy's awesome dogs.

To add to my other comment, she was the first one to have a hot dog stand. He copied her after she had the idea.
