Fresh and delicious cupcakes made and served by beautiful women - what more would you want from a business? Well, you might want a great cup of coffee, free wi-fi, and a bright and retro atmosphere. You get all that and more from Bettie's Cakes, which I stopped into Sunday afternoon during their first day of business.

I really enjoyed my visit there; the cupcakes are great and the coffee is bold without being too strong. Are you reading this Starbucks? The steady stream of curious and apparently hungry customers, the festive decorations and walls (with plenty of pink), and the jukebox playing everything from 50s rock-n-roll to Michael Jackson hits combined to make the place feel alive and fun. As I mentioned in my previous post comparing this new "cupcakery cafe" to PJ's barbecue, this place is more than simply a place to purchase cupcakes and other sweet concoctions. Just walking into Bettie's will likely put a smile on your face. Located in the Downstreet Marketplace at 454 Broadway, you can also enter through the the rear entrance via the Mare courtyard off Maple Ave. Open 7 days a week from Noon-9PM - get there soon and get there often! I know I will.

I don't eat sweets, but the decor seems way cool.

You are right - it is way cool and fun in there. And yes the icing is great too!

I always wondered why that other cupcake place never had a sign outfront. Sounds like this place knows how to promote themselves. It looks so cute. I'll stop in next time I'm in town.
So what flavor did you try?
How is it compared to the Bread Basket's cupcakes? Those were a family favorite.

Hi Ellen great hearing from you. How are things in the Big Apple? They had mini cupcakes which allowed me to try a few. I liked their espresso and strawberry ones the best, although the red velvet was great too. The Bread Basket has great food but it's been a while since I had their cupcakes so I can't do a comparison. See you soon!

I'm jealous I missed the soft opening! Looks like I am going to have to make a special trip to Saratoga (was there last night) with the kids to check them out.

You know what I love the most about the photos? Their aprons!

I believe they sell them there.
