So let me get this straight: We will soon have three, count 'em, three specialty ice cream/dessert places on Broadway opening up this spring? I think one of these guys needs to rethink it because how many of these types of businesses can survive during a recession? Uncommon Grounds and Virgil's House are two other places that I know of serving Gelato as well, then of course there's Ben & Jerry's and Stone Cold Cafe serving more traditional ice cream. Oh yea, Stewart's has two locations on either end of Broadway. I'm sure I missed a few.
Let's see if I can organize this for you. Eugenio's Cafe Gelato is reopening at 458 Broadway, the site of the former Subway and short lived Boca Vida Cafe. Now a place called Plum Daddy plans on opening up this spring in the former Eugenio's location at 419 Broadway. And finally a place called Steve's Handcrafted ice cream and Italian ice is opening up at 382 Broadway, where KEM leather goods used to be. I like Gene Bizarro and he's proven that he can run a business on Broadway for a number of years so I will continue to patronize the well-run Eugenio's in the new location. Granted I'm biased, but these other two guys need to rethink their business plans, or at least their locations. Just my thoughts.
