First and foremost, you likely noticed a lapse of posts in the past week. With the exception of perhaps one more posting that I have been previously working on, I am going to suspend new entries on this blog for about the next 7 weeks while I study for the New York State Bar Exam. I enjoy this blog a lot, and I really appreciate those of you who regularly read and express your enjoyment of FunSaratoga, but it takes a lot of my time and I need to get down to business. Look for a continuation of posts on or about August 1st.
I'm going down swinging (my fiance would say kicking and screaming lol), and I'll part with a few pieces of news:
Bummer news! Swagger haircuts, which I love and wrote about earlier this year, is moving from their arguably ideal Caroline Street location to one not so ideal - on 15 Ballston Ave across from the bowling alleys. I love their present location - next to a head shop and across from a few rough and tumble bars - the barber shop with that great attitude swagger just fits there. It's not technically a barber shop but... On warmer days the door is open and the place is essentially the daytime social center of Caroline Street. A proposed sizable increase in rent is what prompted the move, so the new somewhat out of the way location will be more reasonably priced and allow for a larger place with a few more chairs and of course a few more stylists. Wherever they are located, Dan and Jenn create an upbeat atmosphere with great music playing so even though I'm sad they are leaving Caroline Street I will remain a loyal customer.
I mentioned last week that the Pacific Grill (Formerly the Shanghai Grill on South Broadway) would likely open this week and it is in fact already open - although they apparently are having an official grand opening this Friday. I'm a fan of Sushi Thai Garden, but it's hard to argue with that large outdoor patio, so I will give the new place a try soon. As the pictures from my entry last week shows, the new location certainly underwent significant renovations and it's certainly not your father's Doc's Steakhouse.
The Times Union's Table Hopping blog is reporting that Jacob & Anthony's, the new restaurant by the owners of Bellini's that is going into the Hampton Inn/38 High Rock building, will hold a grand opening party on Thursday June 24th. The proceeds from this event will benefit Saratoga Bridges and the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern NY. Read my previous entry on Jacob & Anthony's here.
The patio on the front of the Bread Basket Bakery appears to be essentially complete, although there is no furniture there yet. I imagine tables and chairs will be arriving very soon so keep your eye out for that opening, which should be a nice addition to the seating there on days where the weather cooperates.
OK like I said I probably have one more posting in the hopper which I will post hopefully by Friday, then I'm going to focus on passing that 'ol bar exam. Take care everybody and talk to you in August.
