Virgin Alexander to be previewed at the New Jersey International Film Festival

The Preview for the New Jersey International Film Festival describes Virgin Alexander as a "sex comedy".  Well, I haven't seen it yet so I can't comment as to the description's accuracy.  Anyway, it's good to see Saratoga Springs' latest movie getting more exposure. It's also going to be previewed at the Black Hills Film Festival in the cultural hotspot of Hill City, South Dakota.

I am looking forward to when it premiers here in the Spa City, perhaps this summer.  Stay tuned.

Saratoga Olive Oil having Grand Opening this Friday through Sunday

I was able to stop into Saratoga Olive Oil last week and it is fantastic.  They have several tasting areas where you can try their many different olive oils and balsamic vinegars along with many varieties of Rock Hill Bakery bread.  I highly recommend checking out this fun and interesting store this weekend - they will have door prizes during their three day grand opening.  Saratoga Olive Oil is located at 484 Broadway here in Saratoga Springs, just north of City Hall - look for the big banner out front all weekend.  I took a few photos and will post them below.

New York Times article tells emotional upheaval that led to Tom Durkin's decision to no longer call Triple Crown Races

A friend of mine alerted me to this New York Times article in which horse race announcer Tom Durkin explains the deep anguish and panic he endured calling the Triple Crown races over the years, and the multitude of attempted cures, including psychiatric help, prayer, medication, and other steps he tried in an effort to address the problem.  It was reported earlier this week that Durkin has decided to step down as the announcer of the Triple Crown Races.  I read the Times article, in which Durkin doesn't hold back in describing the enormity of the pressures he felt, and said to myself "Oh my God, this poor man". 

Durkin is an important part of the Saratoga Race Course experience and I am happy that will continue calling most NYRA races at all three tracks.  Thanks for the great Triple Crown calls over the years Tom - we'll be looking forward to seeing you at Saratoga this year.
