Fun in Saratoga

Check out the Florida Derby on NBC Sports Network at 5pm

March has been a damn good month weather-wise, but today's been pretty cold and dreary.  Pick up your spirits and check out the Florida Derby telecast starting at 5pm on the NBC Sports Network - it will be a good preview of the Kentucky Derby with Union Rags, already the favorite on the first Saturday in May, set as today's 6-5 favorite.  The Gulfstream Oaks will go off at 5:03pm and the Florida Derby goes off at 5:40.  The NBC Sports Network is on Capital Region Time Warner Cable at channels 44 or 1873.  NBC does a great job on their horse racing productions, and watching this race on TV today will get me all fired up for the Saratoga meet just over three and a half months away.  You didn't win Mega-Millions, but perhaps you can win a few bucks on the Florida Derby.  Have a great weekend.

Saratoga Wine Exchange has 25% off moving sale

Well everyone we finally got out approval from the state liquor authority to move forward this week.  Our moving sale has already begun.  Online prices are already marked down, and in store we are offering a 25% discount when you buy any 12 bottles of wine. I think I knew about the restaurant blog Savoring Saratoga, but never really gave it the time it deserved.  The blogger and I have been communicating via email and last night I took a good look at it.  I suggest you do to, and in fact make it a regular destination.   It is very well written, very honest, and has some great pictures of the food from various Saratoga restaurants!  Here is the description in the blogger's own words:

Firecracker 4 Registration is now open

And here's yet another sign that summer is coming - online registration for the Firecracker 4 Road Race  is now open.  This annual four mile road race will be held on (when else?) July fourth at 9am in front of the city center.  The course goes down Broadway and through the east side of Saratoga Springs concluding on Maple Avenue at the back of the City Center.  You can click on the above link to register.  See you there!

 

 

 

Why is gas in Glens Falls that much cheaper?

I was in Glens Falls yesterday and was sort of shocked to see that the gas prices were from 6-12 cents lower per gallon than Saratoga Springs.  The gas off Glens Falls exit 18 was $3.91 a gallon (cash or credit).

The gas down here off exit 15 was $3.97 a gallon.   And inside the city limits on South Broadway, the gas was 12 cents a gallon more than Glens Falls at $4.03 a gallon.  Geez!  Any thoughts?

 

 

Saratoga Wine Exchange owner comments on my post about their Round Lake move

I get the feeling that some readers miss many of the comments on here, especially if those comments are made after you read the entry.  The easiest way to keep up with the comments is to scroll down the right side of this blog and look under the "Recent Comments" tab. 

With that in mind, I reported earlier this week that the Saratoga Wine Exchange would be moving to Round Lake in the next couple of months.  Owner Joshua Hiebel confirmed that report, and gave a detailed comment, which in part expressed his frustration with the city's government.  You can read the original post and comments here.  Thank you Josh for that insightful comment.
